Created out of a merger between Arizona Integrated Physicians (AIP) and Banner Physician Hospital Organization (BPHO), the goal of the Alliance is to create a differentiated single, unified market-wide independent physician organization. This organization supports practice transformation to nearly 1,500 providers through consistent, reliable, coordinated patient experience with improved accessibility, improved quality scores with lower cost of care.
Neighborhoods are a new concept to deliver care to Banner Health Network members. Based on geographic location, these neighborhoods include a spectrum of services from primary and specialty care to ancillary services like laboratory and home health. Dedicated support services for each neighborhood include an assistant medical director and a RAF educator.
About Arizona Integrated Physicians
Founded in 1994, Arizona Integrated Physicians (AIP) was a physician-owned and governed virtual medical group and aligned physician network that enhances the relevancy, viability and sustainability of independent physicians through clinical and business integration. AIP was a key partner with Banner Health Network (BHN) when they were awarded a contract from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for participation in a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Banner has worked closely with these physicians and AIP leadership since Banner’s acquisition of Sun Health in 2008. In 2011, AIP became a participating partner in BHN with physician and administrative representation on the BHN Board of Directors.
About Banner Physician Hospital Organization
Originally formed by physicians in 1989, BPHO was an independent physician-led organization that participated in a variety of risk-based commercial and government contracts to deliver care to the residents of Maricopa and Pinal counties.
Before the merger, BPHO physicians numbered more than 1,200 physicians -- comprised of primary care providers and physician specialists. BPHO worked closely with Banner Health Network and Banner Health, with nearly three decades of organizational experience in managing the health of patient populations, including Medicare and commercial membership.
